With simple beauty, Nancy Wood tells a loving story about a wise creature's last day, illuminated with masterful illustrations by Max Grafe.Old Coyote's muzzle is turning white, and his steps are slow. He spends most of his time basking in the sun and remembering. Chasing rabbits, raising pups with Mrs. Coyote, gathering with his friends on the mountain and howling at the moon — it's been a long, full life, and he's grateful for it. But could it be time for him to take one last journey?

The best book, and the drawings are superb. Out of print as of August 2016, so you'll need to order a used copy. I received this book when my family member passed on, and reading this book helped a bit in time of grief. I have since sent copies of 'Old Coyote' to several friends who have lost their wet-nosed best friends. They all love this book.

As a hospice social worker, I am always looking for books for children that may make a loss either easier or more understandable. This book has become my very favorite for young kids if the loss is that of an older person. We live in a society in which death is always portrayed as something violent, but this book shows us that not only is death a part of life, but that for some, we get to a point when death is desirable because our bodies are no longer doing the things that allow us to enjoy life. I would recommend this book for any kids - and even for adults who are not above looking at a picture book.

This book is part of our family. When ever a pet or someone close has died.....we read this at the funeral. It was a tradition started by my kids. The name and date of the lost have been duly written on the inside cover. Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, wild bob cat kittens found in the yard and family friends have their name in the cover. its what i want at my end....i have bought numerous copies for friends and family when someone 'close' has passed on. I once bought a copy for our Vet. I keep making the poor women cry in our back yard....

I bought this book as a gift (for a kid) but ended up keeping it for myself.
